Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone is a West African country that offers a unique travel experience for adventurous travelers from the U.S. The country is known for its beautiful beaches, lush rainforests, and vibrant culture. Visitors can explore the capital city of Freetown, which is home to historical landmarks such as the Cotton Tree and the National Museum. The country also boasts several national parks, including the Outamba-Kilimi National Park, where visitors can see a variety of wildlife, including chimpanzees and elephants. However, travelers should be aware of the country's recent history of civil war and Ebola outbreak, and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety. Overall, Sierra Leone offers a rich cultural experience and natural beauty for those willing to venture off the beaten path.

Sierra Leone Immunization Recommendations and Requirements

Before traveling, make sure you are up-to-date on all of your routine immunizations including influenza and COVID-19. Note that many vaccines that are now considered "routine" were not available until recent decades so you may not have received them at all, depending on your age and other factors.

Infants, 6 to 11 months old should receive one dose of MMR and Hepatitis A prior to visiting Sierra Leone. This does not count toward routine childhood immunizations.
